Question About Selenite Wand...

I just got a selenite wand and am a bit confused. Many sources I've read said that it's a self-cleansing crystal and doesn't need smudging or anything, and then I've read that it does. Does anyone work with selenite? Can you tell me if it needs cleaned or not?
