These last few years it seems all this astrology and, as the kids say, "woo-woo", have become ever more popular. People seem to be practicing more and more. That's cool so long as people don't turn their backs on science and reason.

I guess I'm still a rebel, though only by happenstance as I've actually drifted from this path and don't celebrate or partake as much as I used to. I haven't been paying much attention. This is partly to blame on recent life situations. Except where it comes to my Indigenous side. I've been reconnecting there more as I've gotten older. Still, I don't get to go to all the pow-wows or anything. That is something I'd like to change.

When I was in middle and high school I used to regularly hang out at a "healing store", as the owner called it. They sold candles, homemade incense, jewelry, books, stones, and an assortment of other things. After I graduated she shut it down and moved everything online. I'm not sure when that disappeared but, I think I only once looked at the website. These are the sorts of things I'd rather see and feel in person whenever possible.

My lineage is with the Cree. It's a rather big tribe. Yet, I still feel like an endangered species. These days, perhaps more than ever, we definitely are. It wasn't until I was older that I was (re-?) united with my culture and that side of my family. Not until only several years ago did I get to hear anybody speaking my Native tongue.

In 7th-8th grade, every day after school myself and a few witches would go to the library, walk around town, visit the comic book shoppe, grab some pizza, or whatever. Often we'd read books on philosophy, Satanism, Aleister Crowley, Wicca, witchcraft, history & culture, and other non-fiction. Of course, these days I hardly remember a word of any of it. lol.

Around that age I started going to pow-wows, as well. There was one every year one town over. Later on I started going to another that was a bit further away. Never to dance or anything. Just for the experience and to browse merch, of course. When I got to live on the rez much later I did join the round dance. Oh, actually, because I dress the way I do and have long hair, I was asked to dance as a crowd participant once or twice. That's something I really gotta be feeling.

These days, I tell the bosses at work that I don't care for their christian / american hollerdaze. I gladly work through them as much as I can and tell people that I do not partake. Some are befuddled. Some simply assume I must be jewish. Which, I very well might have some ancestry! Growing up I did go to my god/less uncle's mother's house for Hanukkah. Anyway, I do try to take off for the solstices and equinoxes, Indigenous People's Day, Genocide Day as I call it (National Day of Mourning), etc.

Ideally, I'd like to keep my dwelling decorated with the seasons. Not necessarily following any european-pagan holy days but, more of a modern regional set. This has only partially happened from time to time.

Astrology, makes no sense to me. It seems outdated. Plus, as I alluded to, I prefer to keep my life untainted from eurocentric anything. Much of generic paganism or witchcrafty type stuff, is rooted in cultures that, while I may be a part of historically and I do respect and enjoy learning about, are practices that I need to not partake in except for any semi-public events that may be of interest. I'm all for pan-pagan type stuff.

These communities need to be united for we are many yet so few relative to the rest of Turtle Island.

Currently, I'm focusing on walking The Red Road, delving back into the occult, green magick, and my own mix of Indigenous spirituality and Satanism. [community profile] thefreaksclub Sibling Community [community profile] the_magick_circle is where I talk about that. I also help run a few others.

[community profile] ethical_society_of_satan which is about society, ethics, philosophy, humanism, non-theological satanism, and other such related things.
[community profile] veg_life which is about vegetarian and vegan lifestyles, animal rights, the environment, and all that.
[community profile] first_nations_freaks for all Native American news, culture, discussions, and whatnot.
[community profile] openhearts_openminds ...polytheism? Maybe! Polyamory? Definitely. All about your less commonly discussed relationship types and other topics relating to relationships.
