[personal profile] brighidsblindbard posting in [community profile] dreamwidth_pagans
Whoops, I just realized earlier this evening that I joined this
community a few days ago but haven't posted any kind of introduction
yet. My bad!

In my defense, however, I've been super busy the past few days,
dealing with a lot of diffrent things on top of each other. That and
I'm sort of taking my time and getting to know this web site again, as
it's been a couple of years since I last had an account here on Dream
Width, and I quickly realized that I forgot a lot of what I originally
knew of how this place worked since then.

Anyway, with that out of the way, please allow me to introduce myself!

Hello there! It is nice to meet you all! My name is Robert, though
please just call me Rob or Blind Rob for that matter. Why Blind Rob,
you ask? Well, aside from the fact that I'm mostly blind to the point
I can only see to a certain extent these days and require a screen
reader when I'm on the web, I tend to naturally fall into the
stereotypical role of that blind diviner/seer/magician/healer or
whatever you want to call it most of the time. Especially whenever I'm
around a bunch of other pagans and similar spiritually typed people.

At the time of this introduction post, I am thirty one years old. I
turned thirty one back in september. I'm also bigender, and use both
he/him and she/her pronouns, though he and him are more of my primary
pronouns than the others for the most part. It's kind of complicated
and I'm still figuring out how to explain it all, even after all these
years.

Spiritually speaking, I practice various forms of Irish Paganism,
specifically An Creideamh Sí and Brigideacht. Or in other words my
general spiritual practice falls within what would be considered irish
faerie faith, while I'm specifically devoted and dedicated to Brigid,
and thus the center point of my religious faiths and practice is
guided and formed around such.

While less of what I believe and more of what I do, I also practice
several things that could and would be considered gaelic folk magic,
the bardic arts (both from a secular and religious perspectives), and
several things that would fall into the catagories or spheres of
influence of divination or seership. In the same stream of things, I'm
also something of a spirit worker.

I hope this will do for now. If not, please let me know and I'll try
to edit this a bit.

Take care everybody!

True. UPG's are one of those things Recon Pagans are very wary of. Most don't have a problem as long as it's YOUR "bidness", it's only if you come out teaching(or Preaching) that they're how the Ancestors did things.
I personally am a strong advocate of "Lore" because I, to coin a phrase, "See Dead People"(and a chitload of other things;>). Historical material helps me check the "bonifides" of Who's in front of me. In my most early days of Heathenry I encountered a Being that presented Herself as Freya. I Felt VERY uncomfortable and it just wasn't that of a Gay guy dealing with a VERY sexual Hetrosexual female;>! After rereading every bit about Freya I had in my library I found that other than the Sensuality there was NOTHING about the Being and the historical material about Freya. Luckily, once I wasn't willing to "play" it went away and didn't require a Banishing or something similar.
I think a lot of folks who've Gifts, esp in the Pagan community but they're in recon Ways as well are too credulous and take Whatever pops up in front of them as face value. I started my Path in the late 70's and over the yrs I've known a lot of folks that ended up burned out because they simply refused to believe something as simple as "Just because they're Dead, doesn't make them Smart(or nice)"...
Cheers,
Pat
