The Winter Solstice....

So....what do folks have planned to do on the Solstice?
For the last few yrs I've been alternating Disablot(Rite to one's female Ancestors, esp those who are it's Guardian Spirits) and Alfarblot(Rite to the Elves and male Ancestors). There is more surviving that Disablot is done at this time(Modranacht) but I've just felt that Samhain is more "female"(maybe too many yrs with the Morrigu and Hel being strong in my Life;>)and so have done this. This yr Solstice is Alfarblot…
Sometime during Yule-tide I'll be Consecrating a votive image for Frigg. I'd been using a historical reproduction of a Valkyrie for yrs but saw a lovely one from Dryad Designs that used Lore-based symbolism for Her image. Looks like a busy few days and that's not even counting Family;>!

I am making a candle for Frigg, too! I found a blue candle in glass at the Dollar Store and I have some images of Frigg to adhere to it. I plan to light the candle tomorrow night and have a rite for her, and the Mothers before dinner-dinner being things like herring in cream sauce, mussels, shrimp, cheeses, cardamon bread, etc.

And a Traditional Witchcraft rite will follow...

Sounds wonderful! Everything but the Mussels(I'm allergic;>). Cardamon bread sounds deliscious. I'm a bread addict....

I hold a vigil for the dead on the eve of the solstice (not all night though!), so I will be doing that and then hopefully a small ritual at sunrise. I celebrated Modraniht a couple of years ago and it was beautiful so I'm hoping to be able to do something for that as well.

Mine the last 2 decades has been attended by two; one for my family and one from Chuck's. When I originally asked Them about this, they said basically that the protocols for same sex marriages hadn't been worked out(Trancework can be kinda hard to put into words esp when at least Modern English doesn't have the right ones;>) so They were going for the same as Blood Brotherhood. My family's Disir appears to me as a plain Blonde woman in middle-age. Chuck's as a handsome Brunette about the same age. The former wears Her hair in braids the latter loose, maybe held back with a headband or something. They seem at least in our cases to be more Protective than Guiding, but then again, I've never asked Them for any;>...

I won't hold an all night vigil (meeting my sister-in-law and her family for brunch on saturday), but I am going to get up reeeeeeeeeeeeally early and light my tiny lighthouse candle when dawn happens and watch it burn down. There's also a really relaxed show? something on the BBC iPlayer that they showed a few years ago. It's literally 2 hours of a couple of Sami women and their reindeer pulling sleighs through the snow in the winter with occasional facts about the area superimposed on the scenery. No music, no talking, nothing but the sounds of them going through the snow. Anyway, I was going to put that on during my morning once the fawns are awake. Start the day with something that's not cartoons for once in my life.

That sounds lovely. All Night Vigils are WAY out of my abilities anymore(not that I'm missing them that much;>!). Finnish and Sami are lovely to listen to; I've a couple of Vartinna albums i put on every so often for a real Otherworldly atmosphere. My old neighbor didn't care for them or Wardruna; she already knew she had demonic homos next door but to her really alien music coming from their house...at least we gave her something to talk about next Kingdom Hall meeting;>

It's not even music from them! It's literally like, the sound of the sled and the reindeer bells and their hooves and that's it. It's amazing. And I almost forgot, I will be trying really hard to bake some butter cookies in the shape of deer as offering too.

I'll probably light the lantern on my shrine, and spend some time with Winter's Sovereign. I don't know what I'll *do* for him, maybe just write a poem. If I have the energy and the time, I might do some Otherworld travel related writing with him.

I'm in Australia so it's the summer solstice. Every year friend holds a party and we all make wishes right on sunset (has to be on sunset as lots of us have little kids to take home for bed not long after), so I'll attend this and then I'll be abandoning my husband and taking baby home (aka. giving him some space to hang out with his friends sans baby).

I'll be starting to work on a fetish for my fetch beast after bubs is asleep. It'll probably take a few days in total to do but I want it started at least on that night.

Every year I do an all-night vigil for the sun's return (well, almost every year; sometimes Life intervenes); it's an annual event at the pagan forum I've been part of for a long time and it's become an important part of my personal festivities.

Currently don't have any proper ritual plans besides lighting my all-night Solstice candle and possibly doing some divination, but I do plan on wrapping gifts and watching The Return of the King (because it seems appropriately solstice-y and I watched the other 2 movies in the trilogy this week already).

Hope it went well. Due to the weather I had to Work indoors and that means I can get interupted by either cats or Spouse(can't blame the Stroke; he used to do that before...just not thinking).

We have a blot with my clan on dec. 22nd (the closest Saturday as usually) for Yule, followed by a banquet, outside. The weather is almost surely rainy and fresh, so I will go without my flutes, I cannot play them by these conditions.

Our weather wasn't pleasant either. Usually it's decent SOME part of the day of the holy day but this time I had to Work indoors. 'Course, that means the cats can "help";>....
