So, yesterday I was just picking up my Partner's meds and decided to pick up some fresh Fruit and Veg. The next thing, I've a full cart! I was puzzled until I realized two things; I'd picked up the panic of the other shoppers(shortening hrs didn't help. Made folks SURE there as a shortage) and my personal Shields were hardly there.
It's my fault. I've gotten complacent living away from metros and there populations and Minds. It'd been at LEAST a yr since I'd renewed them. The house? At least once a month. Me? from now on at least until C-19 burns out a check at least weekly, if not before leaving Protected territory....

It happens.

My shields were and are already strong but the moment that the NCAA started the shutdowns I moved them into Medrengard territory, knowing what was going to start rippling outward.

Australia burns, then drowns. Global plague stalks the world with death glutting her maw. The tsunami is drawing the waters away from the shorelines, but it has not yet hit, and when it strikes it shall strike a blow that those so fortunate as to be shielded from harsher realities but dimly comprehend.

Not just shields, the heavy duty shields, TBF.

C-19 I admit I'm kind of "meh" about. Maybe since I've had so many close calls since "85" when I was told i'd probably be dead in a yr or so. It doesn't help that my Partner of 25 yrs has had 2 Strokes in the last 2 yrs. The only reason I've stuck around is him and when he goes, I'll be not far behind.
This doesn't mean we're not being proactive. My yrs as a nurse had me a bit Obsessive about hygiene before all this so all that shoes off at the door and washing hands as soon as you get in the door doesn't look all that crazy anymore;>!
To me my Shields comment was more about picking up the Heightened Emotions of others. I've lived in a too tranquil location for too many yrs....and that's a "Good Thing";>! House Shields I usually reinforce Quarterly but personal very seldom unless I Sense something NASTY in the neighborhood(or did something stupid like try to make Offerings to the Native Landspirits using Traditional methods the local 1st Peoples used and PISSED some of them off. Horned Serpents are nasty Beings!).
I admit to being a Cynical old Queen. I did Activist stuff from the last "70's" to "90's" for Eco and Social causes....the best I can say is that at least it's not as bad as when I was a teen. It's the following generations time. May they have better Luck than ours DID..
